Tony Robbins Interviews Ray Dalio of Bridgewater Associates

Tony Robbins does a fantastic job dissecting the principles that make Ray Dalio and his $160 Billion Hedge Fund, Bridgewater Associates, so successful.

Ray suggests that people be clear on the principles that will define their decision making.

Ray and Tony are both big proponents of meditation and they even meditated before the attached interview. Ray believes that meditation gives him equanimity, which is defined as 'mental calmness, composure, and evenness of temper, especially in a difficult situation'. When he is in a meditated state he believes the conscious and subconscious brain are both activated which can create truly unique ideas.

Ray describes his successes and failures after he started his investment firm at the age of 26. Ray almost went broke seven years after the start of his firm and needed a $4,000 loan from his father. Through the difficulties, Ray decided that he couldn't get a standard job and stay on the 'safe side of the jungle' as he put it. Ray was attracted to, the ‘other side of the jungle’, the dangerous side, where he knew he could attain his best life. He believes it is crucial to create audacious goals, learn from mistakes, and not be trapped in ones own mind. Furthermore, it is important to embrace reality and to have principles that deal with reality.
